Chiropractor in Málaga — English-speaking clinic

If you are looking for a chiropractor in Málaga and you would rather explain your back pain in English, this page is for you. It tells you exactly who you will see, what we do, what we do not do, and what a first visit costs.

Who you will see

José De San Juan Guerrero, D.C. — Doctor of Chiropractic, Sherman College of Chiropractic, South Carolina. Twenty-five years in practice, all of them in central Málaga. Member of the Spanish Chiropractic Association and a licensed healthcare professional in Spain.

Adjustments, not massage

If you have seen a chiropractor at home, this will feel familiar. The visit is specific and it is short — you are not on a table for an hour, and this is not a massage. Which is usually what people are looking for when they search for a chiropractor rather than a physical therapist.

Graduated in December 2000 and practising ever since: more than 25 years, all of them in Málaga.

What we work with

Musculoskeletal problems of the spine and joints:

  • Low back pain — including pain that appears after long flights or long drives.
  • Neck and shoulder pain, and the tension that climbs into the head.
  • Sciatica — pain running down the leg.
  • Symptomatic disc herniation, meaning there is pain, not just a finding on a scan.
  • Cervicogenic headache, the kind that starts in the neck.
  • Back discomfort during pregnancy.

What we do not do

Said plainly, because it saves everyone time:

We do not treat systemic, respiratory, autoimmune or neurological conditions, and we do not claim that spinal care influences them.

We do not change your medication and we never suggest reducing or stopping it. That is between you and your doctor.

We do not promise outcomes. If what you have is not our field, we will tell you at the first visit and point you somewhere useful.

Your first visit, step by step

  1. We listen. Your history first: how long, how it started, what makes it better and worse, what you have already been told. In English, without rushing.
  2. Examination and postural analysis. A full physical assessment, supported by computerised spinal analysis and a weight platform.
  3. We explain what we found — before anyone touches you. You will understand what is going on in your back.
  4. A plan. How many sessions, how often, and what to expect at each stage.

If you have an X-ray, an MRI or a report from home, bring it. We will read it alongside your history. A scan on its own does not tell the whole story.

Practical questions people ask us

Is the consultation really in English?
Yes. The whole visit can be conducted in English.

I am only here on holiday. Is it worth coming?
It can be, for an assessment and to settle acute pain enough to enjoy your trip. We will be honest about what one or two sessions can and cannot do, and we will not sell you a package you cannot finish.

Is chiropractic regulated in Spain?
Not as a separate profession, the way it is in the US, the UK or Ireland. In practice that means it is worth checking who you are booking with. José is a Doctor of Chiropractic and is registered as a healthcare professional in Spain (physiotherapist, licence 5960, Official College of Physiotherapists of Andalusia). You can verify it.

Do I need a referral from a doctor?
No. You can book directly.

Does my travel or private insurance cover it?
We do not bill insurers directly. We issue a proper invoice so you can claim it if your policy allows. Check with your insurer first, since cover for chiropractic and physiotherapy varies a lot between countries.

Does an adjustment hurt?
It should not. It is a quick, precise movement, not a forceful one. Most people feel relief or a sense of release.

How many sessions will I need?
It depends on what we find and how long you have had the problem. You get a specific plan at the first visit, not a number pulled out of the air.

Do I have to keep coming forever?
No. Once the reason you came is dealt with, maintenance visits are an option, not a condition.
